On the design front, we hear a lot of “we would prefer” comments from the Township of Muskoka Lakes. There seems to be a grey area where specific direction isn't provided, and we have not received any references to by-laws to adapt to, due to the disconnect between the new Official Plan and the existing by-laws. Our clients want clarity on what they are entitled to.

While much of the Official Plan is beneficial and has contributed positively to the protection of shorelines, tree preservation, and other important aspects. The grey areas between the Official Plan and By-laws linking up have added confusion among planners, which can cause frustration for our clients. As we all know, time is money. We want to make the process as seamless as we can between the customer and the TML application process.

Property owners — whether they have residential, commercial, or lakefront real estate — often do not fully understand their current rights and how these will change with the implementation of the new Official Plan. This sometimes leads to considerable confusion and frustration regarding what they have purchased and the terms outlined in the original site plans. That is why we have appealed the Official Plan. We are asking for more clarity and a balance with the restrictions on one’s property.

From the perspective of Muskoka Landscapers, the Township has been responsive and timely in addressing our inquiries. We are now working together on many of our projects. This process will only improve as the rules become clearer for everyone.
