Norse Gods - Myths and Tales from Nordic Mythology

Описание к видео Norse Gods - Myths and Tales from Nordic Mythology

You've all heard about Odin and Thor and Loki. I blame Marvel for that. But there's a lot more to tell about the Old Norse gods. Come along as I tell you about some gods you've heard of...and some that are completely new.

In this video I discuss many of the most common gods that you're already familiar with, but I try to add interesting tales and anecdotes that may be new to you. Did you know that Loki wasn't Odin's adoptive son according to the oldest tales? He was his bond-brother! And is Mjölner, Thor's hammer, really supposed to have such a short shaft? And was Loki just a trickster god, or may he also have been involved with the creation of mankind?

I also dive into many other gods in this video. The Vanir called Njord, Frej and Freja for example. And Frigg, Odin's wife - that may or may not have been the same goddess as Freja, come to think of it... And I also talk about Kvasir, the god of mead, and Skade, the goddess of the hunt. And I mustn't forget about Gefjon, who supposedly founded the first royal dynasty of Denmark.

Among all of this I also mention theories that Odin may have been inspired by Attila the Hun, and that Frej, who was also called Yngve-Frej, may have been an invader from the east. And I have to talk about Tyr and the Fenris wolf as well, and Garm, the hellhound. And Balder and Heimdall are of course worthy of mention too. There are just so many tales and gods in the Nordic pantheon...
