The blessing dance was originally performed in the Royal palace in Cambodia to rid the palace of bad spirits and to bless the royal kingdom. Today the blessing dance is performed at the beginning of all types of performances and ceremonies like this one. It is a dance of greeting and good wishes. During the performance, you will notice that the dancers come forward and sprinkle flower petals toward the audience, this is done in the hope of brining prosperity, peace, and good health to everyone in the audience.
