UPDATE: The unidentified material I held up for cleaning pads/tone holes is called Pellon Fusible Interfacing. I think it's used for adhering pieces of fabric together by heating under an iron. Thanks to Jan Buneta in Toronto for identifying it! He's at http://www.trumpetguy.ca/.
