In shaping and defining their musical style, such legendary performers played a crucial role as Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash or Buddy Holly, just as they inspired Elvis, Hendrix or the Beatles years before.
Their compositions are based on the lyrics and harmonies of singer/guitarist Peter Egri. After releasing a single in Japan, their first album of rockabilly cover songs came out in 2001 with the title Hot ‘n’ Wild Rockabilly Cuts, which was followed by Dig That Rock! in 2003. Jungle Fever, released in 2006, was their first record including exclusively Mystery Gang’s own songs performed in English. All three albums were released under Western-European record labels. In 2010 a concert album came out, called Live and Wild. Following their extensive national and international success, finally they released their first album in Hungarian, Megőrülök Érted (“Crazy For You”). Their striking authenticity is achieved through vividly catching the mannerisms of the era and their musical ars poetica. Traditional rockabilly and rock and roll combined with garage and jungle styles, with the latter evoking the pulsation of the modern metropolis, is what makes their musical style diverse and unique.
Since their formation, the band has played more than 2000 concerts throughout the country and abroad as well, including such remarkable shows, as the Private Buddy Holly Story performed in 2009 at the Palace of Arts, Budapest, which was followed by two subsequent concerts at the same venue in 2011 and 2013. One of their most memorable performances took place in the Budapest Congress Center in 2006, when they had a chance to perform together with the members of Bill Haley’s Original Comets. (For the sake of newborns: Bill Haley’s song “Rock Around The Clock” was recorded on April 12. 1954, which is often regarded as the birthdate of rock and roll.)
