1. First documents your newborn needs
Before any international trip, your baby needs:

a Brazilian birth certificate (Certidão de Nascimento);

a CPF number (in many states now issued automatically or soon after birth);

a Brazilian passport so your baby can leave Brazil and enter your destination country.

In most cases, families manage to obtain all of this within the first 1–3 weeks after birth, depending on appointments and local offices. 2. When can your newborn safely fly?
Many airlines allow babies to fly from around 7–14 days old, but policies vary, and most pediatricians recommend waiting until your newborn has been checked, is gaining weight well and ideally has reached a few weeks of age – sometimes even 2–3 months for non-essential trips.

Without proper authorization, the Federal Police at the airport can refuse boarding.
