Описание к видео How to Travel Abroad with Your Newborn from Brazil | Step-by-Step Guide

Planning to fly home internationally with your newborn after giving birth in Brazil? This video explains step by step which documents you need, when your baby can safely fly, and how to handle Brazil’s exit rules for minors so your trip is calm and stress-free.

In this complete guide, Dr. Diego Di Marco, obstetrician and co-founder of Baby in Brazil, walks you through the process international families follow every week: from getting your baby’s Brazilian birth certificate, CPF and passport, to obtaining the right authorization if one parent is not traveling, and preparing your newborn for a long-haul flight.

03:40 Final reminders: travel safely, focus on your baby, not bureaucracy

1. First documents your newborn needs
Before any international trip, your baby needs:

a Brazilian birth certificate (Certidão de Nascimento);

a CPF number (in many states now issued automatically or soon after birth);

a Brazilian passport so your baby can leave Brazil and enter your destination country.

In most cases, families manage to obtain all of this within the first 1–3 weeks after birth, depending on appointments and local offices. Baby in Brazil’s legal team accompanies parents to the Civil Registry and Federal Police to make sure every form and signature is correct and nothing is forgotten.

2. When can your newborn safely fly?
Many airlines allow babies to fly from around 7–14 days old, but policies vary, and most pediatricians recommend waiting until your newborn has been checked, is gaining weight well and ideally has reached a few weeks of age – sometimes even 2–3 months for non-essential trips.

In this video, Dr. Diego explains why the final decision must always be made together with your baby’s pediatrician, who knows your child’s health, whether the birth was premature, and any special risks. If possible, many parents choose to travel after the first vaccines for extra protection, especially on long-haul flights.

3. Exit rules from Brazil: when one parent stays behind
Brazil has strict protection rules for minors. If a Brazilian child travels without one of the parents, the other parent must usually provide a notarised travel authorization (autorização de viagem), following the Child and Adolescent Statute and CNJ resolutions. Without proper authorization, the Federal Police at the airport can refuse boarding.

Baby in Brazil helps families:

understand whether they need written authorization or an annotated passport;

prepare the correct forms, signatures and, if needed, translations;

avoid last-minute surprises at immigration when leaving Brazil with a newborn.

4. Practical tips for flying with a newborn
In the video, we also cover:

why you should bring extra diapers, wipes and spare clothes for both baby and parents;

feeding during takeoff and landing (breast or bottle) to help with ear pressure;

choosing routes with fewer connections when possible;

using baby carriers, blankets and careful hand hygiene to protect your baby from crowds and germs on the journey.

At Baby in Brazil, we combine medical and legal support:

we organise the baby’s documents and any required authorizations;

we coordinate with your pediatrician about when it is safe to travel;

we explain how to handle the first weeks abroad so you feel confident leaving Brazil with your newborn.

This video is general information, not medical or legal advice. Always follow the guidance of your baby’s pediatrician, your airline’s rules and the official instructions from Brazilian authorities and your own country’s consulate.
