Just an afternoon walk around parts of Maharees and Castlegregory seaside and surrounds.



Maharees (Na Machairí) is a 3 mile long sandy spit jutting out into Tralee Bay. Surrounded by the sea on 3 sides this area is a natural environment of sand dunes, sea , surf and the Maharees Islands (Seven Hogs).

Castlegregory is named after the local chieftain, Gregory Hoare, who built a castle here in the 1600’s. The castle was destroyed by Cromwell's forces in 1650. The only remnant is the arch, which stands at the SPAR supermarket in the village.
