With Marvel's Phase 5 well under way, it's pretty safe to say that the post-End Game MCU is lacking a lot of the creative firepower that originally made it so successful.

And yet here we have Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, a film that feels very much in line with its predecessors -- in my view among the best of the whole MCU canon. It's sharp and funny, and in so many instances utterly heart-wrenching. You may cry.

Leaving the theater, it felt like I hadn't just watched a fitting send-off for this group of characters, but the entire MCU.
