Christopher Chege Msando’s life story is a poignant tale of dedication, service, and tragedy. Born on December 28, 1972, in Kampala, Uganda, Chris was baptized the following year at Nsambya Catholic Church1. His early education began at Busia Primary School, where he completed his KCPE examinations in 1985. Excelling in his studies, he moved on to Sigalame High School in Busia County, completing his KCSE in 19891.
Chris’s quest for higher education took him to Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Information and Communication Technology. His academic journey continued at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, where he pursued a Master’s degree in Strategic Management1.
Upon returning to Kenya in 2001, Chris embarked on a professional career that reflected his expertise and passion for technology. He first joined the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) in Mbita as a web and database designer. After two years, he transitioned to Swissport International LTD at JKIA Nairobi, followed by a stint at Virgin Atlantic. His career path then led him to the National AIDS Control Council (NACC) as a Management Information Systems Specialist1.
In November 2016, Chris made a significant career move by joining the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as a Manager of Information and Communications System. His tenure at IEBC, though short-lived, was marked by his commitment to ensuring the integrity of the electoral process1.
Chris’s personal life was equally rich and full. He married Eva Buyu in 2006, and they formalized their union in December 2011 at Holy Trinity, Kileleshwa, Nairobi. Together, they were blessed with five children1.
Tragically, Chris’s life was cut short in a brutal murder that shocked the nation. He went missing on the evening of July 28, 2017, and his body was found alongside that of 21-year-old Carol Ngumbu at Muguga Forest in Kikuyu. The post-mortem examination revealed that he had been strangled, and his demise came just days before the 2017 general elections—a time when his role at the IEBC was crucial2.
The loss of Chris Msando was felt deeply by his family, colleagues, and the entire country. He was remembered as a brilliant mind with outstanding knowledge, whose career had been shining at every turn2.
