For MS General Surgery, there are 2250 PG seats available in 158 government medical colleges. Half of these seats will be filled through All India quota Counselling and other half will be filled through state quota counselling. so nearly 1100 seats will be available under all india quota.

DNB General Surgery is available in more than 200 NBE accredited hospitals which provides little more than 400 DNB General Surgery seats.

During 2020 PG counselling, last all india rank who got MS General Surgery Seat was 10378. This means if you belong to General category and your All India rank is less than 10000 in NEET 2021 PG exam, you have good chance to get MS General surgery seat in government medical colleges.

To get seat from your native state, you need to have a higher cut off. For example, if you are from Tamil nadu and want to get General Surgery course in Tamil Nadu government itself, your All India Rank should be less than 7500. Also if you are looking to get govt college MS General Surgery seat under Tamilnadu state quota, your AIR should be less than 800.

For DNB General surgery course, last year cut off was 23533. almost twice less than the all india quota cut off.
