LOUIS GOSSETT JR. is interviewed on LATER WITH BOB COSTAS that aired on October 31, 1991. Gossett discusses his early choice between a career in basketball or acting. His Broadway penetration through TAKE A GIANT STEP and RAISIN IN THE SUN (with Sidney Portier) made the decision easy. Most interesting was his discussion of the Cafe Wha? club scene in Greenwich Village in the 1960's and his exposure to BOB DYLAN, RICHARD PRYOR, BILL COSBY, JIMI HENDRIX. Paul from PETER, PAUL AND MARY was his folk music partner before forming that group! Richie Havens recorded a song Lou wrote called "Handsome Johnny" that yielded royalty payments when he was hurting for money.
