Our journey to Jagbanal started from Kalam, where we packed our gear and set off towards Boyon, our first stop. The road was covered in snow, and driving through it wasn’t easy. With the help of snow chains, our jeep slowly made its way through the icy terrain. The freezing wind was tough to bear, but our excitement to reach Jagbanal kept us going.
By nightfall, we reached Boyon, a small village surrounded by mountains. The locals welcomed us, and we spent the night talking with them, learning about the path ahead. The next morning, as we stepped outside, everything was covered in a thick layer of snow. The cold wind that had made the night difficult now gave us the energy to move forward.
We packed our bags and started trekking towards Jagbanal. Walking through the deep snow was exhausting. Every step sank into 3-4 feet of snow, making the hike even more challenging. The trail was untouched, and breaking through it took time. We captured some moments along the way—the snow-covered forest, the silence of nature, and the stunning views all around us.
After hours of trekking, we finally reached Jagbanal. A vast open valley covered entirely in snow, surrounded by mountains, with the Seven Sisters Mountain Range right in front of us. It was completely isolated, with no sign of human life. The temperature was dropping fast, and staying here overnight wasn’t possible.
Hungry and tired, we found an abandoned wooden house where we cooked chicken and tea to regain our energy. Later, we climbed up to the wooden mosque, which is only active in summer. The view from there was breathtaking.
As the sun started setting, we knew it was time to leave. The locals had already warned us that spending the night in Jagbanal could be dangerous. The temperature was expected to drop to -30°C, and the strong winds would make survival nearly impossible. With heavy hearts, we packed up and started heading back. The return journey was just as difficult, with the freezing wind making every step harder.
Back in Boyon, we gathered around a fire, warming ourselves and reflecting on what we had just experienced.
This was our journey to Jagbanal—a place few have seen, where the silence of the mountains meets the harshness of winter.
