Join me on a captivating solo cycle tour through the uncharted beauty of Thailand's Isaan region. My journey begins in the quaint town of Lahan Sai, where the adventure sets into motion towards Prasat to uncover the ancient wonders of Prasat Muang Tam. This remarkable site, with its intricate stone carvings and majestic ruins, marks the first of many historical treasures on my path.

As I pedal through the scenic backroads of Isaan, I'm greeted by the charming sight of traditional teak houses and expansive farms, offering a glimpse into the rural life of Thailand. My adventure then leads me to Sikhoraphum, where the tranquility of the deserted yet modern Prasat Sikhoraphum temple offers a moment of peaceful reflection.

My travels take a vibrant turn in Sisaket, where the lively tunes of a marching brass band fill the air, complemented by the indulgence in delicious local cuisine. The journey continues to Ubon Ratchathani, rekindling old friendships and creating new memories.

Continuing my journey from Ubon Ratchathani to Khong Chiam, I made a brief stop to check out some gong shops along the way. This visit, while a simple pause in my travels, offered a glimpse into the local craftsmanship, adding a brief but interesting note to my journey towards the two-colored river.

Leaving the Mekong behind, I venture northwards towards Mukdahan, stopping first at Trakan Phutphon to immerse myself in the bustling atmosphere of a Thai market. The serene Mekong greets me again at Khemmarat, where an early morning ride through a flock of swallows offers a magical start to the day. When I reach Mukdahan, the sight of Savannakhet directly across the river beckons. This close proximity between the two locations highlights the tangible connection across borders, drawing me towards the next part of my journey into Laos... Here, I transition from cyclist to passenger, putting my bike on a bus to cross the bridge into Laos.

This part of my journey concludes in Savannakhet, where breathtaking sunsets, French colonial architecture, and the iconic Beer Lao mark the perfect end to an unforgettable adventure through Thailand's Isaan district.

From the ancient ruins to the tranquil temples and vibrant markets, this solo journey through Isaan and into Laos is a testament to the beauty and spirit of these regions.

Join me as I recount this journey, exploring the heart and soul of Isaan and Laos, through each pedal stroke and the stories they unveil.
