They Plant Corn Seeds Inside Corn Cobs — Here’s Why
Most people throw away corn cobs after removing the kernels.
But in some parts of China, farmers use those same corn cobs to grow new corn plants.

After harvesting, the dry corn cobs are cut into small pieces and soaked in water for several days. This helps them absorb moisture and creates the perfect environment for seed germination. A small cavity is then made in the center of each cob piece, where a corn seed is placed.

These cob pieces are set on a thin layer of soil, lightly covered, gently watered, and sometimes wrapped with plastic film to maintain humidity. The corn cob acts as a natural seed starter, holding moisture and protecting the seed during its early growth stage.

Once planted in the ground, the corn cob slowly decomposes. As it breaks down, it releases organic matter and minerals into the soil, supports beneficial microbes, and improves root development — all without chemical fertilizers.

Within just a few days, healthy green sprouts appear, ready to be transplanted into the field.
This is not a gimmick. It’s a simple example of zero-waste, low-cost, sustainable farming that turns agricultural waste into a resource.
