Developed and released by DotEmu, Pang resurrects the old Buster Brothers franchise as it was known in the West, or Cannonball as it was known during it's formative years. The main tour features about 100 levels where you need to pop all the balloons. Large balloons split into medium ones, which split it small ones. Some burst into lighting, other drops acid. One hit and your dead. It's not a bloody death you just restart the level, unless you grab a shield. If you're playing co-op, getting hit brings you to your knees and it's up to your buddy to stand on top and help you up. There's seven different weapon upgrades you can pick up, like the shotgun, flamethrower, or ninja stars. There's only a single a fire button and the ability to move left and right, so the controls are simple enough for even a small child, but nuanced enough for adults to sink into. The basic hookshot is slow, but the balloons pop off the line, so you need to stay ahead of them, and anticipated how they're going to split and bounce of the floors and walls. The level design is varied, and the difficulty curve is mostly smooth. Some levels require critical thinking, strike that, mild thinking, and the action builds up nicely to dense and intense. The main game takes about 2-3 hours to complete and unlocks a score attack where you play three-lives no continue arcade mode and compete in online leaderboards. There's also an endless panic mode that's unlocked early in the campaign, but I wish there were leaderboards for each of the levels in the main game as well as a superscore. There's still target score and no miss bonuses you can go for if you're a completionist, but the achievements list could have be better. Overall, Pang Adventures is solid retro resurrection that worth checking out if you like puzzle action shooters.
