In the vast expanse of Indian mythology lies one of the most enchanting and emotional tales of love — the celestial bond between Urvashi, the divine apsara of the heavens, and King Pururava, a mortal of extraordinary valor and charm. Urvashi, created by the gods themselves for her unmatched beauty and grace, was the pride of Indra’s court in heaven. Her dance could hypnotize even the immortals, but her heart would be touched by none other than a human king — Pururava.

When Urvashi and Pururava met, it was not just love at first sight; it was the merging of two souls from different worlds. Despite their differences — she, a celestial being; he, bound by earthly duties — they fell deeply in love. Urvashi agreed to live with Pururava on Earth, but only under strict conditions: he must never let her see him naked except during lovemaking, and he must protect her two pet lambs at all times.

Their life was blissful for many years, filled with passion, laughter, and devotion. But fate intervened. The gods, missing Urvashi’s presence in heaven, conspired to separate the lovers. One night, as per the divine plan, the conditions were broken. Urvashi was forced to return to heaven, leaving a heartbroken Pururava behind.

Yet their story does not end in tragedy — for the love they shared transcended the physical realm. Pururava’s devotion eventually led him to perform penance and attain a celestial status, reuniting with Urvashi in spirit. Their tale remains a timeless symbol of love’s power, sacrifice, and the divine connection that binds two souls across dimensions.

भारतीय पुराणों में एक ऐसी प्रेम गाथा है जो आज भी आत्मा को छू लेती है — यह कथा है स्वर्ग की अनुपम अप्सरा उर्वशी और पृथ्वी के वीर व सुंदर राजा पुरूरवा की। उर्वशी, जिनकी सुंदरता और नृत्य से स्वर्ग तक आलोकित होता था, इंद्र के दरबार की शोभा थीं। देवता भी जिनकी मोहकता से चकित रहते थे, वह प्रेम में पड़ीं — एक मनुष्य से।

वर्षों तक उनका जीवन प्रेम, उल्लास और समर्पण से भरा रहा। परंतु विधि का विधान कुछ और था। स्वर्ग के देवता, उर्वशी की अनुपस्थिति से व्यथित, उनके पुनः लौटने की योजना बनाने लगे। एक रात्रि, योजनाबद्ध तरीके से शर्तें टूट गईं। उर्वशी को स्वर्ग लौटना पड़ा, और पुरूरवा अकेले रह गए — विरह में डूबे हुए।

किन्तु यह कहानी केवल वियोग की नहीं है। पुरूरवा के गहन प्रेम और तप के कारण उन्हें अंततः दिव्यता प्राप्त हुई, और वह आत्मिक रूप से उर्वशी से पुनः मिल गए। उर्वशी और पुरूरवा की यह गाथा आज भी प्रेम, त्याग और आत्मिक जुड़ाव का प्रतीक मानी जाती है — जो समय और लोकों की सीमाओं से परे है।
