This has been rolling around in my head the last 2 weeks. Starts on a lovely G#11....dropping down chromatically to that pre-chorus Gm7b5. Doobie Bros 'Minute by Minute' LP from 1978.
THIS was popular music back in the day, so yeh, you can have jazz/funk elements (and more than 4 chords) and still grab a lot of attention.
Great study piece.
