1 Peter 1:3-9 -

How awesome is the Salvation of God… We never had to earn it… received by Faith in the work of Christ…

Being “Born Again” is the result of a baptism… if you’re born again there is a baptism that’s taken place in your life…

1 Corinthians 12:13

The Holy Spirit baptizes every believer into “one body” the body of Christ…
Every Christian has the Spirit of God within them…
1 Corinthians 13

With that said we believe as a church that the baptism in the Spirit is different than Salvation…

The normal believer’s experience we find in the book of Acts are three baptisms - Salvation… water baptism… Spirit baptism…

This pattern was not just for the 1st century church…

The Holy Spirit is a gift Jesus wants to give us…

Spirit Baptism
Matthew 3:11
Jesus baptized the believer into the Holy Spirit…

But that baptism is different than salvation… let see this in scripture…
John 20:19-22
Salvation, there OT faith was realized at Christs resurrection…

Acts 1:3-5
This would have been after the John account…
Acts 2 is the baptism in the Holy Spirit… this was a subsequent and distinct experience…

Water Baptism
Acts 2:38-41
After we come to Christ and put our faith in Him, God has called us to be baptized… this is an outward expression of the inward work of Christ within us…

Matthew 28:18-20
So in order to be properly baptized, for it to actually mean something within our lives, we have to truly know Him… not about ritual…

These are baby Christians… Sometimes we can fall in the trap of wanting people to have it all figured out before they are baptized… This isn’t saying only those that have arrived at perfection should be baptized…we should not wait forever to baptize believers to make sure their salvation “stuck”…

Baptism is not about ritual and sacraments. It’s about obedience and confession…

So if baptism is so important, what does it mean?

1 Peter 3:20-22
So what is the symbolism… (Noah) Water – Judgement,
Identification with Christ, a commitment to Jesus…
Like a great flood the judgement of all this world consumed Jesus, and in His great love for us He took it… Christ took on the judgment of the Father for the sins of the world…

Romans 6:4
Jesus didn’t stay in that grave… If we will choose to identify with Him in death, we can identify with Him in Life…

Baptism is a witness to that world that we have died with Christ… but we don’t stay there… and that we have been raised with Him to lead our lives differently than we did before… “newness of life”

The desire of God in salvation, and Spirit baptism, and in water baptism, is that we’re transformed by God…

If we have been baptized the question is; are we living out our confession…

Romans 6:1-14
Satan’s not giving up on his hatred of Man and God… it’s not that we’re not tempted or tried… but our response it that of a dead body… dead to sin and alive to Christ

We’re saved by the grace of God, and kept by His grace… “sin will have no dominion over you”… and that grace has an effect within out lives… Saved from… saved to…

A key to victory, we’re not simply trying not to sin, but we’re living in love with God and on mission…
Whenever we’re living not to sin, we’re never going to have victory… That cannot be the focus of our lives…
Whenever we’re living on mission and in love with God we will know greater victory… We’re living on mission to be a part of God transforming this world for Him…

Baptism is good, but its truth needs to be realized within our lives… Let us live dead to sin and alive in Christ!

I believe God’s desire for every soul here is that we would experience and be transformed by God’s three baptisms…

Let the Spirit baptize you into Jesus – Salvation…
Let Jesus baptize you into the Spirit – Seek the baptism in the Holy Spirit
And in obedience to Jesus, be baptized in water and identify yourself completely with Jesus…
