People Like Us | Hashi Mohamed | Talks at Google

Описание к видео People Like Us | Hashi Mohamed | Talks at Google

Hashi is a planning and environmental law barrister, broadcaster at the BBC, journalist and author of People Like Us. From child refugee to barrister at one of the UK’s largest chambers, he knows a thing or two about social mobility. His first book, People Like Us, asks the question, “what does it take to make it in modern Britain?” Hashi's story is not a celebration of social mobility though, it’s a recognition that his success is an anomaly and a passionate call to arms for things to change.

Hashi joins Talks at Google to discuss his book, share his experiences and ask some challenging questions. How can people succeed when we live in a society where the single greatest indicator of what your job will be is the job of your parents? Where power and privilege are concentrated among the 7 percent of the population who were privately educated? Where, if your name sounds black or Asian, you'll need to send out twice as many job applications as your white neighbour? Hashi doesn’t claim to have all the answers but he is determined to start a dialogue and change the way we think about success.
