Minimum Support Price (MSP) is the price at which the government of India buys crops from farmers. The government sets the MSP based on the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices (CACP).The MSP helps farmers by providing price insurance and ensuring that they receive a remunerative price for their crops. However, some say that the focus on MSP for rice and wheat has led to a skewed cropping pattern, which can have ecological, economic, and nutritional implications.
