PLAYA DEL REY BEACH
Hey guys it’s your ol pal Biscotti for my next adventure us my favorite place in the world “the beach”, I’m taking you to one of the very few official dog friendly beaches in Los Angeles.
Playa Del Rey Beach is the wide sandy beach a few miles south of Marina del Rey and Venice beach. The dog beach is located in the northwest of LAX Airport on state land at the north end of Dockweiler State Beach and Ballona Creek. It’s a great place to start a beach walk or a bike ride or play some beach volleyball. The best public parking is near the Del Rey Lagoon on Pacific Avenue where a parking lot and street spots area available. An additional public lot is located at the north end of Pacifica Avenue.
I enjoyed digging and strolling at the beach, I love chase the birds but for some reason I’m a little scared of the ocean. Maybe it’s because I don’t like to get wet.
Aside from loving running around and digging in the sand, a dog beach is a great place to teach your dog to socialize with other dogs. Biscotti is a little intimidated by larger dogs so keep him to other pups his size, like one long haired chihuahua named Miso.
We had so much fun we were chasing each other and did our Run! Run! Run!
Locals call the north end of Playa Del Rey Beach as “ Toes Beach” for hanging ten toes on a surfboard. When Marina Del Rey Breakwater was completed around 1965 the surf break here was altered too much to make it a surf destination. A bit farther south in the main part of the Dockweiler State Beach is where the surfers tend to go these days.
Do’s and Dont’s
• All dogs in LA need to be licensed after 4 months old. LA has some leash laws with maximum 8 ft length everywhere except designated off-leash zones. It’s against the law to tie up your dog more than 3 hours at a time.
• Always scoop your doodoo wherever because it’s not cool to leave it and please dispose your dog waste responsibly.
• All dogs must have identification and license tags on the collar at all times for safety.
