Iron Maiden The Number Of The Beast rhythm guitar lesson

A true heavy metal classic - Iron Maiden The Number Of The Beast. The first riff in this song is actually played downpicked, as far as I can see on the live performances, and it's at almost 200 bpm for a looong while! The other riffs are, on the other hand, not too challenging. I am not entirely sure how they phrase the verse riffs with regards to which notes are palm-muted and which aren't. It seems to me that they improvise a bit when it comes to palm-muting vs non-muting actually, so why not do that ourselves too?
