Fatal Plane Crash / North Lindenhurst, Long Island NY 3.5.23

3.5.23 | by Chris | NORTH LINDENHURST, NY - At approximately 3:00pm, a single engine plane crashed on final approach to Republic Airport in East Farmingdale, bursting into flames on impact. A family of three was onboard the Piper PA. A female adult passenger was killed in the crash and declared deceased at the scene, while an adult male and a female child were transported by medivac to Stony Brook University Medical Center in critical condition; both suffered severe burns. A Good Samaritan helped remove the two surviving passengers from the wreckage. The adult male was piloting the aircraft, which crashed at the end of Fifth St, off of Wellwood Avenue, just yards from a set of LIRR tracks. The pilot issued a Mayday call just prior to the crash. A crash investigation by the Suffolk County Police and the National Transportation Safety Board is ongoing.
