Diagnosing 3 Phase Brushless DC Electric Fuel Pumps

In this video, senior Delphi Technologies trainer Dave Hobbs introduces a new type of fuel pump you may have encountered in vehicles made after 2011: 3-phase brushless DC fuel pumps. They're gaining popularity, but they're a little different than the fuel pumps you may be used to. We'll show you how they work and how to diagnose them correctly. The best place to test is at the fuel pump control module, where you'll see three wires instead of the usual two. Your best bet is to use a four-channel lab scope to help with your diagnosis.
