In a made up story or video game, anything can happen and anything can be made believable if there's a good explanation for it and it's consistent with the rest of the story. As an example, a Bob-omb exploding and sacrificing himself to clear a boulder might seem strange in a world where there is advanced architecture, but if this is the method that's always used for construction in this world, then we can believe it as realistic for this world, because it's consistent with that world.
