Peru's National Forestry and Wildlife Service on Wednesday released a condor in the Colca Canyon, after treating the bird for poisoning.

Wildlife services believed Sinchi, as they called the condor, fed from carcasses of livestock treated with drugs, a common cause of intoxication that has killed several other specimens of the scavenger.

The condor spent seven months in treatment in a breeding reserve before technicians marked him with a satellite tracker and set it free.

The condor is a distinct bird of the Andean region and is protected by South American countries, being considered an endangered species. They are among the largest birds in the world that can fly.
