Can administration of any vaccination lead to positive HIV testing? - Dr. Ramakrishna Prasad

It is certainly possible and well know that after certain vaccinations or in the setting of certain acute infections, such as viral infections, which may not be HIV infections, one can get a false positive HIV test. What does a false positive HIV test mean? It means that you actually do not have HIV infections, but your result typically for the ELISA test comes back positive. This is the reason what single ELSA is confirmed by a multi spot ELISA or a second ELISA is a Western blot or in some cases, by measuring the amount of virus in the blood called the viral load test. My advice would be to get it tested if in doubt. A physician testing for a second time could use a different kit and if still in doubt can consider a viral load test is being done.
