New Delhi, Oct 13 (ANI): The Supreme Court has asked the Central government as why there is confusion on uniform civil code and why can it not be applied in the country. Senior advocates Prashant Bhushan and KTS Tulsi said that uniform civil code is a good gesture by SC and it can create an atmosphere of amity in the nation. Meanwhile Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that a uniform civil code is practically not possible in a country like India where diversity of religions exists. The Supreme Court has asked the Centre to take a quick decision on a Uniform Civil Code to end confusion over personal laws. A Bench headed by Justice Vikramjit Sen told Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar that if you want to have a Uniform Civil Code, have it, but you must take a decision soon. The apex court gave the government three weeks to come up with a proposal to amend the Christian Divorce Act. The Court was hearing a PIL filed by a Delhi based man, seeking waiver of two year mandatory separation period before a Christian couple can move court for divorce by mutual consent.
