Windows NT 3.51 - The OS Microsoft released about 3 months before the well-known Windows 95 (of course we know about it, because it had one of the biggest marketing campaigns of 1995 - For example, the Empire State Building was lit up in the colors of the Windows logo). And, well, it typically uses the Program Manager interface, but using something Microsoft distributed called NewShell, it makes your 3.51 install a pre-95 version of Windows using the Windows Explorer interface (and for this reason, technically speaking, it makes Windows NT 3.51 the first stable release using the taskbar and start menu).
Today, I'll be using Windows NT 3.51, which isn't that great on physical hardware (it's slower than molasses as far as I know on physical hardware), so I'm using VirtualBox instead. Besides, I don't have a PC that can run NT 3.51, so this just makes things much better! Anyways, I'll be covering Notepad. Paintbrush, Calculator, Clock, Mail, Schedule Plus, and much more in this video. Windows NT 3.51 was the last version to support the Intel i386, and also was discontinued on December 31, 2001 (just like many other Windows releases prior to NT4 and 98, however NT 3.51 server got support for another year). Interestingly, when NewShell is installed, the OS identifies as Windows NT 4.0, which is the NT counterpart to Windows 95, but it is still kinda obvious that it is NT 3.51, given the logon prompt and the build number (1057, which is NT 3.51's build number). This video covers Windows NT 3.51 Workstation, specifically.
Enjoy!
