লেভান্ট অঞ্চলে অবস্থিত ইহুদি রাষ্ট্র ইসরায়েলকে, বৃহত্তর মধ্যপ্রাচ্যের শীর্ষ সামরিক শক্তিশালী একটি দেশ হিসেবে, বিবেচনা করা হয়।

১৯৪৮ সালে প্রতিষ্ঠা লাভের পর থেকে এখন পর্যন্ত, ইসরায়েল যেসব সামরিক সংঘাতে লিপ্ত হয়েছে, সিংহভাগ ক্ষেত্রেই তারা সামরিক দৃষ্টিকোণ থেকে বিজয় লাভ করেছে।

এর ফলে বিশ্বব্যাপী ‘ইসরায়েল অপরাজেয়’, এরকম একটি ধারণা বিস্তার লাভ করেছে। যদিও এটা ইসরায়েলি ও ইসরায়েলপন্থী প্রচারণার কারণে।

কিন্তু কোনো রাষ্ট্রই প্রকৃতপক্ষে অপরাজেয় নয়, এবং ইসরায়েলও এর ব্যতিক্রম নয়। কিছু কিছু ক্ষেত্রে ইসরায়েল বিশুদ্ধ সামরিক দৃষ্টিকোণ থেকেই, যুদ্ধক্ষেত্রে পরাজয় বরণ করেছে।

এরকমই একটি ব্যতিক্রমী ঘটনা হচ্ছে ‘কারামেহের খণ্ডযুদ্ধ’ বা ‘ব্যাটল অফ কারামেহ’ ১৯৬৮ সাল।
