This is Part 1 of the video. Click on the link below for Part 2. Fitler Square is a small public park at the corner of 23rd and Pine. The park is named after one of Philadelphia's mayors, Edwin Henry Fitler (1887 - 1891).

Fitler Square is also a neighborhood of Center City Philadelphia. This neighborhood is adjacent to downtown Philly neighborhood of Rittenhouse Square. The Schuylkill River Park, Markward Playground and Taney Baseball Field are in the Fitler Square neighborhood.

It is only a 10 minute walk from Rittenhouse Square to Fitler Square. The famous Delancey Pl is between them. The two squares and neighborhoods look vastly different. Fitler Square is very small compared to Rittenhouse Square and Fitler Square is also very residential.

There are a lot of small cobbled streets around Fitler Square. I started recording on Rittenhouse Square (Rittenhouse Square is also the name of a small street by the side of the Dorchester at Rittenhouse Condominiums. It is a very historic street). I then took 20th street towards Pine Street, crossing Delancey Pl on the way.

At the corner of 20th and Pine is my favorite hardware store, the Rittenhouse Hardware. Across the street from the hardware store is the Palm Tree Gourmet. I took the video a few days after the winter snow storm. There was still plenty of snow on the cars parked on the streets and also on the flower pots and small gardens.

Pine Street is a perfect street for walking. The pavements are good and the traffic is low. It is generally very quiet. As you get to the corner of 22nd and Pine, you will get to see a nice view of the high rises of Center City Philadelphia. This is also where the The Goddard School of Philadelphia is located.

At 23rd and Pine, you will see one of the entrances to Fitler Square. There is a very popular restaurant called Cotoletta Fitler Square at this corner also. The square itself is small and is surrounded by mostly residential buildings. The main feature of the square is the Victorian-era fountain that is at the center of the square.
