Nourishing Schools, an NGO focused on improving childhood nutrition, provides toolkits with activities that teach nutrition through school gardens and hygiene practices to children aged 9-14. As they collected valuable data on child health, they faced a critical challenge: sharing insights while safeguarding privacy, a nascent concern in India. Through nasscom foundation’s Social Innovation Catalyst program supported by Tietoevry, Nourishing Schools received guidance to develop a Data Protection and Privacy Policy. This policy now enables them to responsibly share insights with government bodies, other NGOs, and academic institutions, helping the organization grow as a trusted data hub in the nutrition sector. Their database has surpassed 13,000 entries and is expected to exceed 22,000 by year-end, empowering other organizations to make data-informed decisions to combat malnutrition.
