Описание к видео Along Old Railways Barnstaple Wrafton Braunton Mortehoe Ilfracombe Branch Line

The Barnstaple to Ilfracombe branch opened in 1874 and closed to all traffic on 5th October 1970. The line began at the current station which was then called Barnstaple Junction and after crossing the River Taw on a viaduct then served stations at Barnstaple Town, Wrafton, Braunton, Mortehoe and then dropped down a steep gradient, through the only tunnel on the line at Slade, before reaching Ilfracombe, the end of the line. Some of the former track bed is now a footpath and cycleway although abandoned and overgrown segments still remain around the midway point.
