Cedar Creek Kentucky Fishing CKF Snowball Kayak Bass Tournament

This was the annual Cincinnati Kayak Fishing Snowball Classic kayak bass fishing tournament that is early December each year (when we are all in denial that it is the end of the season and need one last time out all together) this year held on Cedar Creek Lake in Kentucky, an awesome lake with standing timber, tons of varied habitat, and big bass. I love Cedar Creek and jump at every opportunity to drive down there and fish but this day I was under the weather and struggling. While I hate to ever give up on anything, I finally had to admit it was all just too much with how sick I felt (and occasionally I have to remind myself I fish tournaments for fun and don't have to keep going when I am so miserable), so I allowed myself to load up early and get home for a hot shower and early bedtime.

However, the day got in one last hit... I've used the same Hobie Mirage Drive since I got my first Hobie Lynx in 2021 and for the first time something broke. I pedaled against some pretty strong wind and waves to cross the lake with no issue and then as I got to the ramp and pulled my drive out in the shallows, one of the pedals broke off. I consider this completely reasonable wear and tear for as much as I use this boat, but I cannot express how grateful I am to not have had that pedal break when I was in the middle of the lake still trying to reach the ramp! I guess back at the ramp after the last tournament of the year is the best possible time for an equipment failure. I'll be making at stop at Strictly Sail & Kayak to see about pedal repair soon!

Cincinnati Kayak Fishing is what I think of as the more casual and beginner friendly of my two main Ohio kayak bass fishing trails (the other is Ohio Kayak Fishing). We try to keep the entry fees a little lower and the tournaments a little closer to home, and last year changed the AOY race (CKF memberships are NOT REQUIRED to fish the CKF regular season tournaments, but ARE REQUIRED to be part of the AOY points race and to qualify for the TOC) to a style where anyone who reaches a certain points mark qualifies for the CKF Tournament of Champions to allow more people to get the experience!
