Born in Bedzin, Poland, Kitia was 17 when war broke out. Jews in her town were moved into a crowded ghetto and soon were working as slave labourers.

In June 1944 Kitia was sent from Bedzin ghetto to Annaberg labour camp. From there she was taken to Auschwitz where she was tattooed where she was tattooed with the number A-25441. In Auschwitz she experienced the real horror of dehumanisation. From there she went to Ravensbruck camp and finally Bensdorf where she worked in a munitions factory, making rockets.

Her mother survived the Holocaust but her father died on a death march.
