Today, we’re jumping into Terrifier: The ARTcade Game on the Nintendo Switch — a retro-inspired pixel-art beat em up based on the Terrifier horror franchise.

You play as Art the Clown and other characters while tearing through movie sets, smashing enemies with over-the-top gore and dark humor. It offers multiple modes like Story, Survival, Versus, and Boss Rush, along with up to 4 player local co op.

But despite the cool premise and the retro comic style, the actual gameplay experience on Switch left a lot to be desired.

⚙️ Performance on Nintendo Switch
Here’s where the game starts slipping. The Switch version has a few problems that really affect gameplay.
• The game feels very slow for a beat em up
• Inputs can feel unresponsive
• Combat animations are stiff and repetitive
• Enemy patterns almost never change
• Overall gameplay depth is shallow

While the aesthetic is cool, the sluggish speed and lack of fluidity make it hard to enjoy longer sessions. In handheld mode, things still look okay, but the controls and pacing remain the biggest issues.

💭 My Verdict
After about half an hour of play, I wasn’t impressed. The gameplay feels repetitive, the movement is slow, and the polish isn’t where it should be. Fans of the franchise might enjoy the novelty, but as a beat em up, it just lacks depth, speed, and engagement.

I’d personally give this game a 5 out of 10, and I wouldn’t really recommend it on Switch.
