In Disney Gallery Making of season 2, Robert Rodriguez explains his vision on bringing Boba Fett back in The Mandalorian series and how he used video story boards in the same way he did 25 years ago for his film 'Desperado' in 1995.

Boba Fett returned to Star Wars in The Mandalorian Chapter 14 (Season 2 Episode 6).

00:37 - Desperado (!995), Anatomy of a Shootout using video story boarding
01:55 - Jon Favreau and the use of pre-visualization
02:34 - Turning 3 pages into 9 minutes, and turning Boba Fett into a Barbarian
03:16 - Filming Boba Fett's arrival using cosplay and action figures in his back yard!
04:01 - Using mobile phone to pre-visualize a camera angle

In order to illustrate his vision to Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, and to demonstrate how Boba Fett needed to move differently to the Mandalorian, almost like a barbarian, Robert Rodriguez took his Star Wars figures, his Boba Fett and Storm Troopers Halloween costumes and got his sons to wear them, went to his backyard and filmed Boba Fett's arrival.

Robert Rodriguez explains that this video storyboarding process that he started in his "Desperado" days (1995) allows him to progress faster than drawing the whole storyboard and also keep control of his shoots and framing rather than let artists do the drawings.

This video storyboarding process was picked up by Jon Favreau for The Mandalorian series and Marvel MCU films. Every single episode is entirely pre-visualized in 3D virtual animation by the directors allowing them to iterate the story and each scene before any filming actually happens.

Similar to Robert Rodriguez video story boards, the 3D virtual pre-vis workflow enables a very efficient shoot of each episode, as efficient as any superhero film reshoot where everything to be filmed is planned and everything the story is still missing and then needs is known in advance of the shoot.

Once on external location, Robert Rodriguez uses his mobile phone to pre-visualize scenes.

Robert Rodriguez will be executive producer on "The Book of Boba Feet" set to be released in December 2021.

All rights belong to Lucasfilm, Disney for Star Wars / The Mandalorian, and Robert Rodriguez for Desperado behind the scenes.
