Hello, and welcome back to Follow! It's November 9th, 2024, and we are back in Moab, Utah. Today we are going to share what we feel are the top five reasons you MUST drive the Long Canyon Road, which is about 25 miles West of Moab, utilizing Highway 313.

1. It is not difficult and can be navigated in basically any high clearance four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicle and any level of experience.

2. Drivers get to navigate under and through the iconic fallen rock feature and landmark along the section known as Pucker Pass.

3. The scenery and landscapes are absolutely out of this world amazing!

4. The rapid change in elevation, from the top of the canyon to the bottom, allows the various layers of rock and dirt formations to be viewed without having to navigate the terrifying shelf road of the Shaffer Trail or an extreme off-road trail like Pritchett Canyon.

5. At just 7.5 miles in length one way, 15 miles round trip, this is a relatively minimal distance and can be completed in just a few short hours if so desired.

We navigate the road in both directions and thus the terrain and landscapes change throughout the day, so make sure you watch until the very end. We also explore a short one mile section of an alternate start to the Day Canyon Point Trail. Day Canyon Point Trail is actually closed due to it being part of the 2023 Bureau of Land Management plan to close a large portion of unmaintained roads west of Moab. Our onX Offroad App showed the alternate section to still be accessible and there was no signage of any kind indicating otherwise except for the occasional no camping sign; however, we did not continue passed the point where it intersects the main trail. These closures are being contested within our legal system as we speak. It is extremely sad access to OUR public lands are being so heavily restricted. This shows how important it is to recreate responsibly, always staying one designated routes and picking up trash.
