Pain, suffering, and incapacitation are something we all fear. Most people will say, I am not afraid of dying, but how I die scares me. It is the unknown. In this episode of "Death as Life," we have a sneak peek behind the curtain of death. People in the process of dying pierce the veil between this life and the next, straddling both worlds. It is an episode that hopefully brings a sense of solace, reminding us that death is not an end, but a transition. What comes next may even be better than the life we have experienced on Earth.

Death marks the end of a life we know. It signifies parting ways with the people we love and leaving a world we have generally enjoyed, only to step into the abyss of the unknown. The death of a loved one, or even contemplating our own mortality, is never a comforting thought, and I would never try to minimize that sorrow. The glimmers of hope we may find in trying to look beyond the dying process can help soften the harsh reality of this unknown.
