Survivor Stories: Life Beyond the Golden State Killer | Full Episode | Very Local

The mystery surrounding the Golden State Killer, also known as the East Area Rapist and the Original Night Stalker, loomed over California for decades.

Even after he was identified as Joseph DeAngelo and arrested in 2018, the pain he caused continued to impact his many victims and others in the community.

For one survivor, Kris Pedretti, that was also the first time she felt a strong sense of support for what she'd been through, and she wanted to pay it forward.

DeAngelo's trial also brought a number of his victims together, and soon many of the women had formed close bonds with one another.

With the help of fellow Golden State Killer survivor Gay Hardwick, Pedretti started a Facebook support group to help others. With the group growing to more than 600 members, Pedretti hopes it can spread to different locations and give survivors the courage and faith to "speak out and speak up."
