On this day in 1956, the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh arrived in Stockholm for their first State Visit to Sweden.

Rare archive footage shows the royal couple being greeted at the docks by King Gustaf Adolf and Queen Louise of Sweden, before the Queen and King Gustaf process through the city in a carriage.

We see Queen Elizabeth bedecked in jewels for the State Banquet, attending the opening ceremony of the Equestrian Olympics and finally attending the glamorous Amarant Ball with Princess Margaret.

Our favourite clip shows the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh sharing a tender moment on the ballroom dancefloor.
