Presenting the virtual book launch of "Divine Custody: A History of Singapore's Oldest Teochew Temple", published by NUS Press with the support of the National Heritage Board.

"Divine Custody" is a history of the Wak Hai Cheng Bio/Yueh Hai Ching temple, the oldest Teochew temple in Singapore. Author Yeo Kang Shua led the UNESCO award-winning effort to restore the temple from 2010 to 2014, and so is uniquely placed to understand what its architecture can tell us of the legacies and histories of the communities that formed and were formed by the temple.

Yeo Kang Shua will discuss his book with Hui Yew Foong.

About the discussants:

Yeo Kang Shua teaches at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) and is an architectural restoration specialist.

Hui Yew Foong is Associate Professor at Hong Kong Shue Yan University. His research focuses on the study of heritage politics, Chinese diaspora, and Southeast Asian studies.
