Thematic presentation "Arangadukathai"


“Koṭukoṭṭi” is a dance performed by Śiva (one of the supreme Gods in Hindu mythology) in his unique Mātorupākaṉ (half man - half woman) form.
The Hindu mythology says that there were three Acuraṉ (demons), who were sons of Tārukācuraṉ. They built three forts. They kept menacing innocent people. Lord Śiva became angry and destroyed those three forts with just his smile and assumed the title “Muppuram-erittōṉ” (the destroyer of the three places / forts).

In Saivism, which has been made a sub-sect of Hinduism now, there is a philosophical context for " Muppuram-erittōṉ ". Ego, Lust and Illusion (Māyam) are the three acuraṉs that make people undergo all the worldly sufferings and the Soul runs to Lord Śiva for rescue.

திரிபுரம் எரியத் தேவர் வேண்ட

உமையவள் ஒருதிறனாக ஓங்கிய
இமையவன் ஆடிய கொடுகொட்டி ஆடலும்”
பதினோராடலில் உள்ளடக்கப்பட்டிருந்த ஆடல்களின் முதலாவது கொடுகொட்டி ஆகும். பறை முதலாகிய பல தாளவாத்தியங்கள் முழங்க, மாதொருபாகனாகச் சிவனாடியதாகச் சொல்லப்படும் ஒருவகைக் கூத்தே கொடுகொட்டி.
திரிபுரமெரியச் சிவன் உமையொடு ஆடிய கூத்து இதுவெனக் கலித்தொகையிலும், இமயவன் ஆடிய கொடுகொட்டியாடலும் எனச்
சிலப்பதிகாரத்திலும் காணக் கிடைக்கின்றன. முப்புரம் எரியக் கைகொட்டி ஆடியதால் கொடுகொட்டி என்பது வழக்கு. கொடுகொட்டி என்னும் வாத்தியம் முழங்க ஆடும் கூத்து இது என்பார்.
ஒருபுறம் சிவனாகவும் ஒருபுறம் உமையாகவும் ஆடும் அர்த்தநாரீஸ்வர அலாரிப்பாக இது அமைகிறது.
