🌫 Delhi’s Air Quality Crisis: Time to Look Beyond Stubble Burning

Every year, as Delhi’s air quality dips to hazardous levels, fingers point towards farmers and stubble burning.
But the data this year tells a different story.

📊 Between Sept 15 – Oct 21, 2025:
👉Punjab recorded 415 stubble-burning incidents – the lowest in six years, down nearly 96% since 2020. (Source: Down to earth)
👉Haryana too reported only 55 cases, a massive drop from 1,367 in 2021.
👉Yet, Delhi’s post-Diwali AQI soared to 488.7, the highest in five years (Source: The Hindu).

📈 India’s Most Polluted Cities (Post-Diwali 2025):
Even as stubble fires decline, Delhi, Lucknow, and New Delhi topped the list with AQI levels touching “hazardous” zones during Diwali night — Lucknow: 1317, Delhi: 991, New Delhi: 706 (Source: India Today Group).

🌱 A Call for Balanced Accountability
🔺Let’s be clear — residue burning is harmful.
🔺It damages soil health, reduces fertility, and adds to pollution.
I sincerely urge farmers to adopt sustainable practices, leveraging schemes like:
🌾 Crop Residue Management (CRM) Scheme
🚜 Farm Mechanization Programs
🧭 Awareness drives and subsidies for Happy Seeders & Super Seeders

The efforts by authorities to promote such schemes are commendable and deserve appreciation. 👏

❓🤔 But Here’s the Bigger Question❓🤔
1️⃣When stubble burning cases are at record lows,
2️⃣why is Delhi’s pollution still rising?
3️⃣Where are the urban emission control strategies?
4️⃣Why is there silence on vehicular, industrial, and festive emissions?

It’s time to face the real causes — not just shift the blame to rural India.
If we want cleaner air, we must look at comprehensive, data-driven urban pollution control, not just seasonal scapegoating.

🌍 For a Sustainable Future
We need:
🗞Honest reporting and transparency in pollution data.
🚫Equal accountability — from farmers to urban industries.
🤝Collaboration, not confrontation.
