Orokin reactors double the mod capacity of Warframes, Archwings and Companions.
Weapons bought with platinum form the Market come with a pre-installed catalyst and weapon slot.
Warframes and companions bought with platinum from the Market come with an orokin reactor already installed and a warframe slot.
Once a catalyst or reactor is installed it can not be removed.
They are often referred to as potatoes due to their similar shape.

Build costs of a catalyst are; 25,000 credits, 1 morphic, 1 gallium, 1 control module and 1 orokin cell. They take 23hrs to build and cost 10 platinum to rush.
Build costs of a reactor are; 35,000 credits, 1 morphic, 1 neurode, 1 neural sensor and 1 orokin cell. They take 23hrs to build and cost 10 platinum to rush.

in the mod menu for any equipped Warframe, Weapon, Companion, Archwing, Arch-Weapon or Sentient weapon, press the action button in the lower right of the screen.
Once in the actions menu press the upgrade button to install a catalyst/reactor. The mod point capacity of this item is doubled.
