As of March 2020 We are currently having a huge stock market crash and my heart goes out to everyone out there that is suffureing major losses. Its not a good feeling. More importantly I want to send out my condolences to all the friends and family of people that have passed away due to COVID-19.
The S&P is down 18% from its highs Italy is fully quarantined and the virus is still spreading fast. Saudi arabia is pumping out more oil which led to the price of oil dropping 20%. As a focused dividend investor never I never lose track of the end game. I invest for dividend income and a retirement focused portfolio I want to retire off dividends in the future. And I want to own a few of the best quality Companies in the world.
So when a crash like this happens. I see it as an opportunity to buy the best quality companies in the world at a discount. If you look at every crash since the beginning of the stock market history, they 100% of the time Bounce back. Some will take 1 year, others will 5 years. It doesn’t matter how long, they always bounce back. The hard part is resisting the urge to sell stocks at a period of bad times.
So what do you now that the market crashed, do you look for new companies or invest in old ones. The answer is. It depends.

Now in the case of oil. Our memory is still fresh from the oil recession that happened in 2015 and a lot of companies went bankrupt and other stronger companies with stronger balance sheets have survived but are still hurting from that recession. I would stay away from oil for now.
