Описание к видео Fraser Surrey Docks is getting out of the container business

Port Metro says Fraser Surrey Docks is getting out of the container business

by Eoghan Moriarty | [email protected]

On October 15, Port Metro Vancouver hosted a Small Group session in Surrey to speak about the proposed Roberts Bank Terminal 2 project. The session lasted 2 hours including questions. In attendance were the Port Metro staff and consultants you see in this video and about 15 other people from various groups.

In this excerpt from the meeting, Rhona Hunter, Port Metro Vancouver Acting Director of Infrastructure Development talks about Fraser Surrey Docks "getting out of the container business" and that "the port is looking to repurpose itself". When questioned as to whether this was because FSD was going to be shipping coal instead, she was unable to comment on the matter as she is in the container business.

Rhona Hunter goes on to state, "There is no proposal from Fraser Surrey Docks to increase their container business."

However, the Fraser Surrey Docks website states the following:

"Fraser Surrey Docks proudly supports the PMV's initiative to expand Roberts Bank via Deltaport and the proposed T2. Fraser Surrey Docks (FSD) is pleased to announce that the terminal has been included in Port Metro Vancouver's (PMV) Container Capacity Improvement Program (CCIP). The CCI Program is the PMV's long-term strategy to reliably support growing international trade with Canada through Canada's west coast. Since the inception of the program at the start of 2011, PMV has been focused on providing more efficient container capacity in the Roberts Bank area (existing Deltaport terminal and exploring the option of constructing a multi-berth mega port called T2). In June 2011, Port Metro Vancouver announced Fraser Surrey Docks will also become part of the Container Improvement Program as a viable container terminal to accept future container growth.

Is Terminal 2 Even Needed?
Mike Isinger from the International Longshore and Warehouse Union questioned the Port on the lack of a business case for Terminal 2 as the existing infrastructure is running far below capacity.
