It was a horrific crime that rocked the entire city. What started out as a fun day out turned into bloodshed.

Teenager James Andre Smartt-Ford was gunned down in front of ice skaters on February 3, 2007.

It has been 13 years since the 17-year-old lost his life in such a brutal way at Streatham Ice Rink in South London.

More than 300 people were reportedly at the ice rink when the attack happened, and a birthday party was being held there.

Witnesses were terrified of even speaking about the event after it happened.

There was utter "pandemonium" as the detective on the case, Inspector Will Reynolds described in court. Skaters fled from the scene as they heard gun shots. It is thought that the attackers came into the rink through fire exits.

"Andre ran onto the middle of the ice rink and collapsed. There was absolute pandemonium and chaos as people ran for cover," Inspector Reynolds said.

No one was ever charged for James' murder, despite a £20,000 reward being offered for information about what happened and who killed him.

The whole case was made worse for James' family when they were not informed about the inquest into his death.

The case led to 18 arrests but not one of these people were charged. It remains unsolved as forensic scientists investigating at the time were waiting for technology to develop in order to find DNA on two gun cartridges that were found at the scene.
