These days most graphics cards come equipped with GDDR5 memory as standard, with some cheaper GPUs offering DDR3 VRam too. It hasn't always been this way though, and in late 2008 it was AMD who were the first to introduce this new type of memory to their mid range and fantastic price to performance Radeon HD 4870.

So let's take a look back at what this card could do.
