Jasmine Lynn Torres, the wife of fallen Raleigh Police Officer Gabriel Jesus Torres, testified in court about the tragic events of October 13, 2022—the day her husband was fatally shot. Jasmine explained that Gabriel, known as “Gabe” to his family, was a dedicated police officer and former Marine, as well as a loving husband and father to their daughter, Ila, who was just two years old at the time.

On that day, Gabe had worked an overnight shift and unexpectedly spent extra time with his family due to a series of unforeseen events Jasmine described as “divine intervention.” Gabe took their daughter to daycare in the morning and later returned home to rest before preparing for another shift that evening. Jasmine later picked up Ila from daycare and was driving back home when she heard unusual sounds over the phone while speaking with Gabe—sounds that would later be identified as gunshots.

As Jasmine arrived home, she noticed Gabe’s car in the cul-de-sac and initially believed she saw wet leaves on the windshield, only to realize moments later they were bullet holes. She ran to Gabe’s car and found him critically wounded but still alive. Jasmine attempted to stop the bleeding and keep him breathing until neighbors and first responders arrived.

Despite emergency efforts, Gabriel Torres did not survive. Jasmine later learned of his death through a media notification before doctors could formally inform her. She described the experience as life-altering, emphasizing the profound loss suffered by herself and their young daughter. Her testimony highlighted not only the tragic events of that day, but also the enduring emotional impact on her family.
